Gazprom Neft Middle East B.V., a subsidiary of Russia's Gazprom Neft, has produced 4 million tons (32 million barrels) of oil since the Sarqala field in Iraq's Kurdish region began commercial development.

The field currently has three Wells operating, producing about 3,100 tonnes (24,000 b/d) a day.Despite COVID-19 constraints, Gazprom Middle East B.V. has continued to develop the field and has implemented a number of important production projects, including the drilling of a fourth well, which will increase production to 4,100 tons (approximately 32,000 barrels) per day upon commissioning.Production is expected to begin in the first half of 2021.

Gazprom Middle East B.V. is involved in the project in partnership with the KRI government as part of KRI's development of the energy supply system in the region. The associated liquefied petroleum gas (APG) from the Sarqala field will be used as fuel for the energy facilities currently being developed by the government authorities. The plan envisages the construction of a 4.5km natural gas pipeline to connect the field to power generation facilities. The implementation of this project will not only increase APG utilization of the field, but also facilitate the supply of energy to several areas of the KRI.

Vadim Yatsenyuk, deputy chief executive of Gazprom's upstream business, said: "We are not going to be able to do this.'The Middle East remains an area of strategic interest for our company,' says Vadim Yakovlev, chief executive of Yakovlev.Despite the limitations of the current COVID-19 outbreak, we are continuing our projects in the region this year.Sarqala's fourth well could come on stream as early as next year, making it possible to increase and sustain production from the field. Now that we have established a production base, gained unique experience and an understanding of the geological characteristics of the area, we remain interested in investigating new development opportunities in the area.
